Real Estate Goals

How to make large projects manageable and set your real estate goals for ultimate success

The reason many people procrastinate and have a hard time focusing on their real estate goals is because they do not establish a simple method for attaining goals or projects.  One of the biggest contributors to procrastination and stagnation is having too many things to do or having such a large project or goal that it is almost impossible to get anything done.

Break Everything Down

What you need to do is break everything down.  Below is a list of how to set goals and prioritize projects so that you do not come in contact with your favorite enemies; procrastination and depression from procrastination.

If you are not completing your goals and projects and measuring your success in some way, then you will not complete your goals or financial dreams and that can be very, very depressing indeed!

Here is a step by step system for getting things completed and done on time.

Real Estate Goal Step #1   Write down everything that you think you need to do.  This is just like a brain storming session write out all as many things that come to you, then sort out the most important ones.  Don’t worry about how you list them yet, just get everything down that you need to complete your list.  Remember, motion beats the heck out of meditation.

Real Estate Goal Step #2   Start to prioritize what you think is the most important thing that you need to get done.  Label the items in a way that makes the most important things that you have to do first.  I usually use a lettering system.  I list my item from A through Z.  You don’t need to rewrite your list because you are labeling the list in this fashion.

Real Estate Goal Step # 3   Look at your list and see if there are things that you can actually delegate to others.  You will be surprised how many tasks can be completed in no time by other individuals.

Real Estate Goal Step #4   Put a star next to the 3 most important items.  It does not matter how big they are or how small because if they are very important, then you will need to get them finished no matter what.  Make sure you also label and prioritize these items as well.  If the task is a large one, break it down into a list as well.  Remember if you are crossing out these goals or tasks on paper your motivation will increase and you will complete your goals so much quicker.

Real Estate Goal Step #5   Schedule a time for a short break.  Don’t try to eat an elephant all at once.  Give yourself a chance to step back and look at what you have done. You may consider re-labeling or reprioritizing your goals and tasks now.

Real Estate Goal Step #6    If one of the steps is too big, then break it down into bite sized steps. (See step #4)

Real Estate Goal Step #7   If you find a goal or project is boring or mundane then try to make it fun.   If you have to make calls to clients, then perhaps you could do it from a lawn chair sipping a cup of coffee.  Many people, once they begin to pursue their goals, dreams and tasks in this manner, seem to have a lot of fun with it as a byproduct of getting things done.

Real Estate Goal Step #8   Try to set goals a day ahead of time.  If you don’t you could get caught in a never ending trap of procrastinating and then getting depressed.  A real good habit to get into to is to schedule a time every night to list goals and dreams in this manner.  If you read the book The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley (Please see the Amazon ad on the left hand side of this page.) you will see that most of the millionaires surveyed spend time setting goals everyday, so make sure that you train yourself to do this.

Real Estate Goal Step #9   Give yourself a reward.  Find something that you really love to do and reward yourself.  This is very important that you do this!!! Just to give you an example, I love to go to the book store.  To me, spending a few hours looking for books is something like to do.  It is time consuming, but I love to do it.  So, whenever I complete my goals, I go to the book store.  You see, you do not have to buy anything expensive or anything like that, just reward yourself with something that you really like to do.

Final Thoughts
These goal points are very important to your success.  Without them you are like a boat just being blown around and you’ll never have any way to measure your success or know if you are progressing.

Real Estate Goal Sheet

On this page of my Website is an Adobe Acrobat Reader file (.pdf) that you can download and use to set your goals on. I would print many copies of it out and then punch holes in it and stick it into a binder.  That way, you can go back several pages and see what your progress is.  If your pages are blank, then you know that you did not get enough done and it will be come very clear that you did not finish your real estate goals.
